10. 29 people have died on the trail so far.
9. We finished our May calendar- we traveled over 10,000 miles and spent almost $1,000 on gas!
8. Today was Joanna's last day of school for the year and we are so sad. :( She brought BEAUTIFUL hanging flowers from Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Rodin.
7. If you brought in your homework this week, you got to have a donut!!!! And, from now on, there is NO more homework.
6. Emma's husband died in search of water even after surviving a rattlesnake bite. Many others perished on the trail this week. So sad.
5. We moved to our final editions of our game boards this week.
4. We had a hald day focus day on Wednesday so we didn't recycle (or have buddies).
3. We worked on revising our RCA journey acrostic poems.
2. We started writing our own SOS stories, inspired by the new read aloud.

Top Ten from May 10-14, 2010
10. Kelly Richards (Kelsey) lost her husband to a rattlesnake bite! Chomp! (Dr. Smith, Beau, feels badly that he couldn't save him.)
9. Amanda Black, Ellona, lost her wagon to a ball of fire during a fight with the Indians.
8. We watched a movie about Annie Oakley and who she was.
7. We started having chance and fate on the Oregon Trail.
6. In the Stout Hearted Seve, story about the Sager children, we ended today reading with Father and John being killed by Indians.
5. Some people (the pioneers) had to stand for a day because they fell in a cactus.
4. We finished OAKS testing.
3. We are recording our journey across the US on our calendar.
2. Our wagon trains left Independence, Missouri to travel to Oregon.
1. On the trail, some of the spouses along with their youngest child, wandered off and caused a delay in travel.

Top Ten Hits from March 1 to March 5
10. Seaman, the bear-dog from the Lewis and Clark trail visited our classroom. (Thank you Mrs. Wood!)
9. We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd!
8. We had the NED assembly and learned about yo yo tricks and good character traits.
7. We didn't have Fritter Friday.
6. We did a formative assessment reading test.
5. We started a new calendar with fractions.
4. We lost our brand new Bailey and are sad.
3. We learned about the nickels that represent important parts of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
2. We made buffalo hide stories.
1. We had some special guests visit our classroom during our math workshop.

Top Ten Hits: February 22-26
10. We took our next states test over the mid-west region and the others that we have studied. (We have another test coming up soon...so keep studying!)
9. We drew line drawings of our deciduous trees that will go with the poetic descriptions we are writing.
8. "I came and 8 is my favorite number," said Bailey, a new student in our community classroom.
7. We learned about Andy Warhol, an artist. We drew soup cans like the ones he did.
6. We get to email the teachers (rodincarter4@gmail.com) our tree revision homework this weekend.
5. We learned about the 4 commemorative nickels for Lewis and Clark and what they represent about their journey.
4. We reviewed our latitude and longitude skills with a Lewis and Clark activity.
3. We learned about pirogues and keelboats, two kinds of boats that the Corps of Discovery used.
2. We started off our days a little differently this week- we have had daily dilemmas this week where we learn about an obstacle that Lewis and Clark faced and we decide what we would have done if we were in their shoes.
1. Thursday was cloudy, with a chance of BLM! We walked over to the BLM and visited our winter trees.

Study the Regions
Last week we journeyed across America's Heartland, the dozen states in the Midwest. Make sure that you are studying the states and know where to locate them on the map AND how to spell them.
